Cairns is generally considered a safe destination for tourists and visitors alike. However, like any city, there are some dangers and precautions to be aware of while traveling in the area.
Dangers
- Petty theft and pickpocketing can occur in busy tourist areas. Be mindful of your belongings and keep them in sight at all times.
- Swimming in the ocean can be dangerous due to strong currents and marine life such as sharks and jellyfish. Always swim between the flags on patrolled beaches and obey warning signs.
- Driving can be hazardous due to unfamiliar roads, wildlife, and weather conditions. Take extra care when driving in rural areas.
Warnings
